InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is a Canadian national organization that seeks to build witnessing communities where students can be transformed into fully committed followers of Jesus in all their ethnic diversity. Transitions between difference stages of life can be difficult to navigate and throughout Intervarsity’s 80+ years of ministry we’ve been committed to walking alongside students through these transitions, whether from childhood to adolescence in camp and high school ministries or from adolescence to early adulthood in university fellowships and our workplace ministry groups. Currently, on Vancouver Island we have a fellowship at the University of Victoria and operate a summer kids camp on Thetis Island at Pioneer Pacific Camp.

InterVarsity’s mission is deeply characterized by creating spaces where students can discover Jesus, live undivided lives, practiced engaged thinking, build a global vision of the church, and grow in influencing the contexts they find themselves within. These values lead us to encourage students to build meaningful friendships and host meaningful conversations, often through small group investigative bible studies, kingdom hospitality and mentoring opportunities.

About Alan:

Alan fosters kingdom-of-God communities of university students choosing to be friends on mission together. These communities invite students at the University of Victoria and Camosun College campus to be lifelong followers of Christ who love mercy and act justly. Alan helps students to practice their apprenticeship to Christ on a daily basis in the midst of uncertainty, and through their transition from adolescence to adulthood.

He loves stewarding the value for scripture, prayer and lifelong discipleship, and how students hear from God as a result. It’s his joy to keep in mind both local and global perspectives, and to be able to work in partnership with all parts of the body of Christ.

Alan enjoys reading, writing and travelling. A passage of scripture dear to him is Psalm 139.

Ways to get Involved:

Pray With Us – Pray for students struggling with mental health and increasingly stressful workload and stressful workloads. Pray for God’s shalom to be made manifest in high schools and universities. If you would like to pray for students in Victoria, we would love to have you join our Intercessor WhatsApp Group where we provide brief updates every two weeks.
Create a Care Package – We love providing care packages for students at the beginning of semesters and during exam seasons. If you would like to commit to making care packages for students full of treats and baked goods, please contact Alan at athorimbert@ivcf.ca
Host A Meal – We’d love to provide students new to Victoria with an opportunity to have a homecooked meal at the beginning of September’s to help them connect with local communities. If this would be something your family would be interested in, please contact Alan at athorimbert@ivcf.ca
